A survey done by the University of Michigan shows a big drop in the number of teenagers who say they smoke cigarettes.

In the survey, over 44,000 students in grades 8, 10 and 12, from 424 schools across the

          __16__

were asked about their smoking habits. The results show that smoking among 8th graders

          __17__

Anti-smoking organizations think educating kids about smoking risks are the

          __19__

          __20__

          the high rates of teenagers.”

          Others say the

paying attention to teenage smoking habits

          __24__

lifetime smokers often get hooked on smoking at an early age.

But some say that the new figures aren’t exactly cause for

. While it is true fewer teens are smoking today than five years ago, the rate of teen smoking is still higher than it was.

          Cigarette smoking is the

Someday a stranger will read your e-mail without your permission or scan the websites you’ve visited.Or perhaps someone will casually glance through your credit card purchases or cell phone bills to find out your shopping preferences or calling habits.

In fact,it’s likely that some of these things have already happened to you.Who would watch you without your permission? It might be a girlfriend,a marketing company, a boss,a policeman or a criminal.Whoever it is,they will see you in a way you never intended to be seen—the 21st century equal to being caught naked(裸露的).

Psychologists tell us boundaries are healthy, though it’s important to reveal(透露)yourself to friends, family and lovers in stages,at appropriate times.Actually few boundaries remain. The digital breadcrumbs(面包屑)you leave everywhere make it easy for strangers to reconstruct who you are, where you are and what you like.In some cases,a simple Google search can reveal what you think.Like it or not, increasingly we_live_in_a_world_where_you_simply_cannot_keep_a_secret. The key question is:Does that matter? For many Americans, the answer apparently is“no”.When opinion polls ask Americans about privacy, most say they are concerned about losing it. A survey found a majority of people are pessimistic about privacy, with 60 percent of respondents saying they feel their privacy is“slipping away, and that bothers me”.

But people say one thing and do another.Only a small part of Americans change any behavior in an effort to preserve their privacy.Few people turn down a discount at tollbooths(收費亭)to avoid using the EZ-Pass system that contracts(跟蹤) automobile movements. And few turn down supermarket loyalty cards.Privacy economist Alessandro Acquits has run a series of tests that reveal people will submit personal information like Social Security numbers just to get their hands on a pitiful 50-cent-off coupon(優(yōu)惠券).

But privacy does matter—at least sometimes. It’s like health: when you have it,you don’t notice it.Only when it’s gone do you wish you’d done more to protect it.

          28.From Paragraph 2,we can infer________.

A.criminals are easily caught on the spot with advanced technology

B.people tend to be more frank with each other in the information age

C.in the 21st century people try every means to look into others’ secrets

D.people’s personal information is easily accessed without their knowledge

29.What would psychologists advise on the relationships between friends?

A.There should be a distance even between friends.

B.There should be fewer quarrels between friends.

C.Friends should always be faithful to each other.

D.Friends should open their hearts to each other.

30.Why does the author say“we live in a world where you simply cannot keep a secret”?

A.There are always people who are curious about other’s affairs.

B.Many search engines profit by revealing people’s identities.

C.People leave traces around when using modern technology.

D.Modern society has finally developed into an open society.

31.What do most Americans do with regard to privacy protection?

A.They change behavior that might disclose their identity.

B.They talk a lot but hardly do anything about it.

C.They rely more and more on electronic equipment.

D.They use various loyalty cards for business deals.

32.According to the passage, privacy is like health in that ________.

          A.its importance is rarely understood

B.it is something that can easily be lost

C.people will make every effort to keep it

D.people don’t treasure it until they lose it

not at all一點也不;on the other hand另一方面;to the contrary相反。

句型It’s obvious that…

mean…by….

5.A once“一旦”,unless“除非”,until“直到……才”,before“在…… Once you are talking with him, you’ll find him an easygoing man.

句型為:倍數(shù)+as …as…。

          10.C hit sb.on the+部位。

          14.A find oneself doing sth.

第一空后was built可知這里缺少主語,同時跟前面的house有修飾關(guān)系,故選用which或that;第二空是強調(diào)句型的that,即本句強調(diào)狀語in the stone house,在house后又跟了一個定語從句,故本題選A項。

Cigarette smoking is the … cause of preventable death and disease in this country.

          17.C 聯(lián)系空后from 21 percent in 2002, to 12 percent in 2007我們知道,數(shù)量在下降。

          20.A 聯(lián)系空后的the high rates of teenagers我們知道,個人與組織一直以來試圖降低高比率。

22.B whatever the reason是whatever the reason is的省略形式,whatever引導(dǎo)了讓步狀語從句,相當于no matter what。

          23.C 聯(lián)系空后their product is only for adults我們知道,香煙公司提出告誡。

While it is true fewer teens are smoking today than five years ago, the rate of teen smoking is still higher than it was.

          26.A 吸煙是……
