          2024高考選練----閱讀理解閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C、D)中,選出最佳選項。

Born in 1983 in Linyi, Shandong Province, Chen Zhou had an unhappy childhood. When he was only six years old, his parents got divorced. He had to leave his hometown and began wandering at the age of eight. What’s worse, he lost his legs in a train accident.

Faced with various difficulties, he never gave up. To make a living, he used to sell newspapers, polish shoes for others, and repair electrical equipment. Anyway, he decided to be a singer in the end. Now Chen Zhou has been a little famous for his songs. “God took my legs away, but I will make them up.” he said.

He has strived to achieve more than most able-bodied people would even dream of. He has married and has a beautiful wife and a pair of children. “I can make my life meaningful, though I have no legs.” he said.

In fact, he has climbed all of China’s five great mountains including Mount Tai 11 times. To walk up those steps with his arms, he used a pair of home-made wooden boxes that each weighs seven pounds.

So far, he has been to more than 700 cities in China and has held over 3000 street concerts. What inspires people most is that he often donates money to those who are in trouble. Chen Zhou, whose story has moved millions of people, has set a good example to us and deserves our respect.

Even so,Ma prefers a low-key approach.“If you eat a tasty egg why would you want to see the hen?” she says of all the media attention.

Ma’s relationship with Peng began 10 years ago after a concert in Guangzhou when a reporter told Peng she knew the designer behind the label Exception de Mixmind.Peng asked for an introduction because she was a fan of Ma’s designs and had been wearing them for years.

The two naturally became friends.Ma says:“The painting reflects the painter, and clothes reflect both the designer and the wearer.Someone desires fame and wealth,or love and sympathy;what you have in your heart is reflected in the design. Those who don’t share my philosophy won’t buy my clothes.Peng is a caring person, devoted to charity and environmental protection, which is exactly what I’m doing now.”

However, regardless of the brand,Peng’s support of Chinese labels has surprised millions of Chinese who favor foreign fashion brands.

“Instead she presented a vision of Chinese fashion, desiring to bring Chinese designers to the world stage,” says a western designer.

答案: B閱讀理解閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C、D)中,選出最佳選項。Toast (土司), perfume and washing powder are the smells most likely to hit you when you walk through the door of your home, according to a new study.

Researchers have identified(確認) the whiffs which they claim make a house a home, with washing powder making up 34 percent. Freshly made toast accounts for another 22 percent, while perfume makes up 17 percent. Other smells which will typically hit you as you step through front doors around Britain include last night’s dinner (10 percent), flowers (12 percent), coffee (5 percent) and pets.

Seven percent of Britons—around 1.5 million—claim that a unique smell is what makes their house a home, above the furniture or decoration. Half admit the smell of home makes them feel safe and warm, while it leaves one in 10 feeling worried or upset. A third of people have tried to recreate a certain smell to make them feel more at home. A further third have put off buying a property because of how it smells and three quarters believe you can find out a great deal about a person from the smell of their home. Four in 10 people have avoided visiting someone because of the smell of their home.

The study also found that one in five people love the smell of their home so much they want to bottle it and take it with them. Three in 10 wish they could have smells of their own home while on holiday. A further two in 5 would like to smell their living room while out shopping as the smell of home makes a third feel relaxed and stress-free.

Professor Tim Jacob, an expert in the psychology of smell, said, “Smells make a house a home because of the positive associations being ‘home’ has. Your home is filled with the things you love—your children, partner, perfume, pets—so when you smell them, you instantly feel better and at ease.

People respond(反應) well to familiar smells. Those which are alien(陌生的) make us feel on edge until we’ve identified the source and assessed that it’s not harmful.
