條件狀語面面觀（二）
4. 用獨立結構作狀語，表示可能實現的條件。這種結構多用于書面語。例如：
My health permitting， I wont retire.
如果我身體允許，我不會退休。
Weather permitting， we will start at six tomorrow morning.
如果天氣允許，我們明天早晨 6 點出發。
All being well， we hope to be back within a week.
如果一切順利，我們預期一周內返回。
Everything taken into consideration， his work is well done.
如果把各方面的情況都考慮進去，他的工作干得很出色。
All things considered， her proposal is of greater value than yours.
如果考慮到各個方面的情況，她的建議比你的建議更有價值。
5. 在祈使句＋ and/or ＋分句結構中，祈使句含條件意義， and 或 or 后面的分句含結果意義。例如：
Give me some tools， and Ill fix it for you right away.
要是給我一些工具的話，我馬上替你修好。
Read it through， and you will know everything.
如果你看一遍，你就什么都知道了。
Come early， and you will see the actress.
早點來，你就會見到那個女演員。
Be careful， or youll slip and fall.

有時 and 前面不是一個祈使句，而是一個名詞短語（相當于一個條件分句）。這樣的句子，結構簡潔，條件意義很突出。例如：
A word from you （ ＝ If you say a word）， and hell change his mind.
只要你說一句話，他就會改變主意。
A step forward， and youll be dead.
再往前走一步，你就沒命了。
Another sound from me， and the snake might strike.
要是我再弄出一點兒響聲，蛇就可能咬我。
6. 某些定語從句有時暗含條件意義，特別是當先行詞是 anyone ， a ＋名詞或 any ＋名詞時。例如：
Anyone who refused to bow was thrown into prison. （＝ If anyone refused to bow， he was ）
誰拒絕鞠躬，都會被投進監獄。
Any graduate who has mastered a foreign language can find a better job here. （ ＝ If any graduate has mastered a foreign language， he can ）
只要掌握了一門外語，所有的畢業生在這兒都能找到一份較好的工作干。
A textbook that is of great help to students is sure to be well received. （＝ If a textbook is of great help to students， it is sure to ）
一本教科書只要對學生大有幫助，它肯定會大受歡迎。
He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man. （＝ If a person does not reach the Great Wall， he is not a ）
不到長城非好漢。
7. when 引導的狀語從句，有時也隱含條件意義。例如：
When there is no gravity， our feet no longer stay on the ground.
如果沒有地球引力，我們的腳就不能夠在地面上站穩。
When you go to work， take a taxi， or share a ride， or walk.
如果你去上班，你就乘出租汽車去，或者與人合乘汽車去，或者步行去。
What will he do when he finds the doors locked.
如果他發現門鎖著，他該怎么辦呢？
Turn off the switch when anything goes wrong with the machine.
如果機器發生故障，就把電源切斷。
有時在 when 從句前加上副詞 only 用以強調這種條件。但 only when 從句位于句首時，主句中的主語和謂語要倒裝。例如：
Production can be increased greatly only when science and technology are developed.
只有科學和技術得到發展，生產才能大幅度增長。
Only when I explained did he realize the reason for this.
只有在我解釋以后，他才明白了事情的原因。
8. 用 where 引導的狀語從句，尤其在 where there 這種結構中，也隱含條件意義。例如：
Where there is life， there is hope.
哪里有生命，哪里就有希望。
Where there is oppression， there is resistance.
哪里有壓迫，哪里就有反抗。
Where there is a river， there is a city.
哪里有河流，哪里就有城市。
