Payments made on Chinese smartphones are nearly 50 times greater than the number of mobile transactions in the United States, signaling a late-mover advantage with robust potential for the fintech sector, the Financial Times reported.

據《金融時報》報道，中國移動支付的規模是美國的近50倍，顯示出中國在金融科技這一方面具有的后發優勢及巨大的潛力。

The value of third-party mobile payments more than tripled to 38 trillion yuan ($5.5 trillion) in China last year according to estimates by consultants iResearch, while Forrester Research reported a 39 percent increase to $112 billion in the United States.

據艾瑞咨詢公司估算，去年中國第三方移動支付的價值增長了近三倍，達到了38萬億元人民幣（約合5.5萬億美元），而佛雷斯特研究公司則報告稱，美國的移動支付市場規模只增長了39%，僅為1120億美元。

The rise of Chinese mobile payments has been driven by the explosive growth of online shopping as well as internet financial services such as peer-to-peer lending and readily-accessible money market funds, the newspaper reported.

Online sales surged 26.2 percent to 5.2 trillion yuan in 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Over half of Chinese mutual funds are now sold online, up from only 5 percent in 2024.
